Carbides, as a Chrome Replacement

Companies are increasingly shifting from hard chrome plating (HCP) to carbide coatings—particularly tungsten and chromium carbides—due to a combination of tightening environmental regulations and the superior physical properties of carbides in demanding industrial environments.

Carbides can be ground and polished to a mirror finish, mimicking chrome in aesthetics and surface finish (Ra).

Coating Examples:

PrevTec HV-75: [Pictured] Chromium Carbide for high temperature oxidation and chemical resistance. Excellent thermal transfer

PrevTec HV-50: Tungsten Carbide designed for heavy wear and abrasion; fine particle erosion

PrevTec AR-80: Boron Carbide that is economically-applied with an adjustable surface finish; from coarse to mirror
